Band Review
30 Seconds to Mars has been around since 1998, Fronted by Lead singer Jared Leto, who writes the lyrics. The band originally consisted of Jared leto (singer, guitarist), his brother Shannon Leto (Drummer), Solon Bixler (Guitarist) and Matt wachter (bass guitar). Their first album was the self titled '30 Seconds to Mars'. By the time their second Album, A Beautiful Lie, was released in 2005, Solon Bixler was no longer in the band and had been replaced by Tomo Milicevic. In April 2007 Bassist Matt left to spend more time with his family, but soon missed being in a band, so he joined Angels and Airways- fronted by Tom delongue formerly of Blink182. Matt has been replaced by tour Bassist Tim Kheller, but Tim has not yet been made an official band member. The hope is the band will release a new album late this year(2008).
The band has had to overcome the 'stigma' of having a lead singer who is a Hollywood Actor, they have continued and are gaining huge followers, named 'The Echelon' by the band (after a song on the 1st album- meaning wave, so meaning wave of followers of the band. Jared Leto, frontman, is well known in hollywood circle. He has appeared in My so called life (tv series with claire danes), how to make an american quilt, Basil, Summer fling, requiem for a dream, panic room, fight club, highway, chapter 27 (where he gained 62lbs for the role of john lennons killer) and more. He is due to appear as nemo nobody in Mr Nobody at some point this year.
I have seen this band live, and they are electric! Jared knows how to work a crowd, including diving into the crowd during sets. Somtimes older followers of the band tire with what they call "Girl Fans", young girls who are 'in love' with Jared, but I say, if they like the music it doesn't matter if they have a crush on band members as well.
